www.nypl.org ~ Conversation Portrait by Flash Rosenberg ~ Artist-in-Residence, LIVE from the New York Public Library "Was the 20th Century a Mistake?" Werner Herzog in conversation with Paul Holdengräber, February 16, 2007 ~ ideas drawn as they are discussed LIVE, in real-time ~ WERNER HERZOG's films include Aguirre, The Wrath of God, The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, Nosferatu, Fitzcarraldo, Even Dwarfs Started Small, Grizzly Man and Encounters at the End of the World. Born in Munich, director, screenwriter, producer, and actor Herzog grew up in a remote mountain village in Bavaria and never saw films, television, or telephones as a child. During high school he worked the nightshift as a welder in a steel factory to produce films and made his first film in 1961 at age 19. Since then he has become one of the most influential filmmakers in New German Cinema producing, writing, and directing more than forty films, publishing more than a dozen books of prose, and directing as many operas. Herzog quickly gained notoriety not only for creating some of the most fantastic narratives in the history of the medium, but for pushing himself and his crew to unprecedented lengths to achieve the effects he demanded. ------------------------------ executive producers: Ron Qurashi, Diane Charles - for Intelligent Life Productions sponsor: Lexus and L/Studio.com - for Team One Advertising: Chris Graves - for Lexus:Robin Pisz live-drawing and director: Flash Rosenberg video editor: Sarah Lohman ...
