New Guidelines and Attitudes for Tonsillectomies

Tonsils are clumps of
fff
tissue located at the back of the throat.  Although researchers are not sure exactly how, experts believe the tonsils function as part of the immune system by helping the body fight infection.  As a result of this immune function, these cone-shaped bodies of tissue can succumb to infection. Tonsils can enlarge, causing obstruction of a child's airway; and become reservoirs for bacteria, resulting in repeated bouts of strep throat infection, regardless of antibiotic use.
